Oil filled radiators are a great option for heating your grow room. They're inexpensive, compact and powerful. But there are a few things you need to consider before buying one.
You'll want to make sure that the size of your grow room heater matches the size of your grow area. For example, a 1000W Lighthouse oil filled radiator is best suited to cover areas of 3m x 3m, whereas the 2000W counterpart gives you up to 4m x 4m coverage.
For strong and healthy plants, you must maintain a temperature between 24 and 25°C during the lights-on period and no less than 18°C during the dark period. Be sure you've got enough space to account for anything extra you'll need to accomodate this (more on that later).
An oil filled radiator uses a small amount of oil to transfer heat into a larger volume of space. This means that the unit will not only provide heat to the grow room, but also help maintain humidity levels. They're an ideal heat source for when ambient temperatures are low. During dark hours, an oil filled radiator overrides the lack of heat from the grow lights - a useful function during winter when temperatures can drop significantly. In addition, their fins allow heat to be distributed evenly. Both Lighthouse units have 9 fins, but the more powerful 2000w radiator has added castor wheels and two heat settings.
If you're lucky enough to have a bigger grow room, you can safely install multiple units as long as you keep your plants around 30cm away while they're in use. Oil filled radiators tend not to dry out your environment the way fan heaters can. They're noiseless too! Placing multiple oil filled radiators in your grow room will provide you with a low cost, free-standing heat source which is both safe and reliable - all while being maintenance-free!
