Plastic plant pots may be cheap but they're not very durable. They're also a bit of an eyesore when placed on a shelf or table, but those aren't the only reasons you should fabric plant pots over plastic ones.
Fabric pots are made from natural materials such as cotton, hemp, linen, bamboo, jute and polyester. This means they won't leach harmful chemicals into your growing media, unlike their plastic counterparts. They're also biodegradable, so they'll eventually decompose into soil once discarded whereas when you throw away plastic pots, they often just end up polluting our landfills.
Plastic pots aren't good for plants either; the chemicals that make their way into soil can also cause damage to plants' roots.
Fabric plant pots are easy to clean. Just wash them by hand or machine. If you use a washing machine, make sure to rinse them thoroughly before putting them back in storage.
Fabric pots have great aeration capability; they promote air pruning, a natural occurence where roots are pruned off when exposed to air. This encourages the plant to produce new, healthy branching roots which become more deeply rooted, leading to greater yields through their increased nutrient uptake.
Time to stop circling like those roots in your plastic pots and make the switch! We recommend Root Nurse Pots - their tried and tested fabric pots not only come in a bunch of sizes (3.8L all the way up to 76L), but they have a range dedicated to hydroponic growers! The Ice White range have impressive light-reflecting properties which can help maintain a lower root zone temperature.
